My Intex Pool Is Unlevel By A Few Inches – What Should I Do?

So you’ve got yourself a brand new Intex pool, installed it in your backyard, but there’s only one slight problem.

Your Intex pool is unlevel, and you are wondering if you can still use it without any grave consequences.

Most Intex pool owners often ask us what they can do if their Intex pool is unlevel by a couple of inches, so we’ve decided to create this guide just for them. We will tackle everything you need to know how to deal with unlevel ground and what kind of leveling blocks or materials you can make use of so you can start using your swimming pool soon.

Table Of Contents

To get started, let’s discuss if you can use your Intex pool if it’s on uneven ground and what are the risks of using an unlevel Intex pool, even if it’s just for a couple of inches.

Intex Pool Level Tolerance

Intex pools or any above ground pools should only be used on level ground as much as possible.

However, Intex and other pool manufacturers give their customers some leeway when it comes to setting up their above ground pools on unlevel surfaces.

You may set your Intex pool on a sloping yard as long as it does not make your Intex pool unlevel by more than 2 inches. Of course, having this lower than 2 inches is still a much better option. Intex pool materials are strengthened to support a slight slope on your above ground pool.

If it is more than 2 inches, you need to do some precautionary measures as this makes your pool vulnerable to damage. We draw the line at 3 inches, if it’s three inches or more, we highly advise you to try and level your Intex pool first.

Risks When Intex Pool Is Unlevel

Here are some of the things that might happen if your Intex pool is unlevel.

Trouble with your pool’s walls. Unlevel Intex pools may have one part of the pool lower than other parts, and this unevenly distributes pressure on your pool’s walls. A part of your pool may have the highest weight due to it being on uneven ground. This will can cause your wall to collapse and leave permanent damage on your Intex pool. This applies to both framed pools and inflatable pool sets.

Damage to your pool liner. Another part of your Intex pool that can be damaged by it being unlevel is your pool liner. If your pool liner is on an uneven surface, it may have folds and wrinkles on it. These folds and wrinkles may get caught up when you clean your pool using your pool vacuum, and this may cause your liner to rip or tear apart. Even if Intex pools use strong and durable pool liners it is still suspect to damage if it is set on an unlevel ground.

Danger to small children. Having an unlevel Intex pool will cause a side of your pool to be higher than the other side. This is risky if you have small children who cannot reach the base of your Intex pool. Also, as mentioned earlier, there is a risk of collapse or tear of your pool’s interior, and you don’t want that occurring when your kids are using your Intex pool.

For these reasons, we highly suggest you level the area first where you’ll set up your Intex pool set.

For those who don’t have kids using their above ground pool, you may opt to swim on an unlevel Intex pool. Hopefully, your pool will hold. It’s a risk you can take. But for those with kids using their Intex pool, we recommend leveling the ground for your Intex pool for their safety.

How to Level the Ground for Intex Pools

We can think of two ways you can level the ground for Intex pools, first is you can do it yourself and learn the ways others level their own Intex pools. Or you may consider hiring someone else, a professional pool installer, to do your above ground pool installation which includes leveling the area you plan to set up your swimming pool.

Both options will cost you money, but since you’re already reading this guide, we’ll assume you’re planning to do everything on your own.

Here are the instructions on how to level the ground for Intex pools if it’s on ground soil.

Step-by-Step Guide On How To Level The Ground For Your Pool

Gather the necessary materials and equipment

Before you start leveling the ground for your Intex pool, get the needed materials and equipment first. You may need a tape measure, shovel, hammer, leveling blocks (pressure-treated lumber or patio pavers), and something you can put under your Intex pool for added protection like an old tarp.

Measure how much your Intex pool is unlevel

You can easily check your Intex pool water to determine how many inches your Intex pool is unlevel by visual inspection. Since most Intex pools have square tiles on their pool walls, you can just count how many squares are showing on one side, and how many squares are on the opposite side.

If you cannot properly determine how many inches your Intex pool is unlevel, you can use a tape measure or a level tool to have a more accurate measurement.

Drain your pool

If your Intex pool is unlevel by more than 3 inches, we suggest draining the whole pool.

If it’s only by a few inches or is less than 2 inches, you may drain only half the water on your Intex pool. However, if it’s one of those large-sized Intex pools, you might be better off draining it completely to minimize the risks of your pool getting damaged while we level the ground underneath it.

Put blocks under your Intex pool

To level your inflatable Intex pool, you may put blocks on the ground to have a level Intex pool. You may have to dig the ground first, so you can easily level the ground using the soil on it and either a concrete block or patio pavers.

For framed Intex pool that is unlevel, you may put a block of wood or concrete underneath the legs of your Intex pool to level it.

Check if your Intex pool is leveled now

Now that you’ve put the blocks underneath your Intex pool, verify if it’s properly leveled before refilling it with water. Check if there is any difference between the water levels of your swimming pool. Go around your pool to check each side.

Avoid refilling your pool without making sure that the ground is leveled properly to avoid having to re-do these steps all over again.

Intex Pool on Unlevel Concrete Fix

One of the best surfaces to setup your Intex pool is on concrete, but what if the concrete is unlevel?

For Intex pool owners that are setting their above ground pools on an unlevel concrete surface, you have to measure first how many inches your Intex pool is off-level. If it’s under two inches, you may choose to install your pool without leveling the concrete surface.

If it’s more than 2 inches, then you may have to gather some leveling blocks like pressure-treated lumber, patio pavers, or concrete blocks. The leveling blocks you’ll be using depends on how off-level your Intex pool is.

If it’s just an inch or inch-and-a-half off-level, you may use interlocking foam tiles to level your Intex pool and also serve as an added protection for your pool liner.

  • COVERS 24 SQ. FT. - Each tile measures 24” x 24” x ½”- thick from the highest point of the texture; Includes 6 tiles and 12 end borders for a polished look

Now, there is also the option for you to hire a professional to level the concrete in your home. Unfortunately, we cannot quote an exact price for this one since it highly depends on the total area you need to level and the costs of the needed materials in your area.

If you have the extra money, we consider hiring a professional the best solution to level your concrete for your Intex pool properly.

Intex Pool Leaning Fix

There’s a higher chance that your Intex pool won’t last long if it’s clearly leaning on one side. Since this can cause stress on both your pool liner and your frame legs if you have any.

For framed Intex pools that are leaning on one side, you may use a rachet rope to keep your pool’s frame legs in place. If it’s being caused by an uneven ground surface, you may put a leveling block under your above ground pool’s steel frame/s to level your pool.

Mytee Products Ratchet Tie-Down Straps with Flat Hooks, 2" x 40' Ratchet Straps Yellow | 10,000 Lbs Breaking Strength | TieDown Ratchet Straps for Flatbed, Truck, Trailers Pickup (1 - Pack)
  • ✔ Size: The ratchet straps with flat hooks and webbing that measures 40-feet in length and 2 inches wide will securely tie down the largest loads in place.
  • ✔ WORKING LOAD LIMIT: This heavy duty tie down strap has a Working Load Limit of 3,333 lbs. with a break strength capacity of 10,000 lbs.
  • ✔ DURABLE POLYESTER WEBBING: Our straps are made of durable polyester webbing. Polyester webbing barely stretches under heavy loads and water slides right off it.
  • ✔ HIGH VISIBILITY: These ratchet straps are a highly visible shade of yellow.

For inflatable Intex pools that are leaning, you may have to level the ground first. Since it would be impossible to use a rachet rope around your Intex Easy Set pool. We highly recommend leveling the ground first and using interlocking foam tiles to add protection for your pool liner.

Frequently Asked Questions About Unlevel Intex Pools

How many inches can a pool be unlevel?

It’s possible to have your Intex pool unlevel to be two inches off. This won’t cause any structural issues so you can still use your swimming pool. Any more than two inches is unacceptable. Intex pools that are more than two inches off won’t last long and can be too dangerous for you and your family to use.

What happens if your pool is unlevel?

If you have an unlevel pool, then the water level in your pool will vary. The pool water will generate more force on one part of your pool than the other. This uneven weight distribution can cause your swimming pool to buckle, twist, or even collapse your pool walls. Someone can be injured or your property will probably need repair if your pool structure collapsed so never use an outdoor pool that is unlevel.

What do I put under my Intex pool?

When you want to level your Intex pool, the easiest way to do it is by putting some materials to even the surface under your Intex pool. Any type of pool will benefit from using a tarp. Although a tarp can help level your Intex pool, there are far more superior materials that you can make use of like interlocking foam tiles.

Final Thoughts On Fixing Unlevel Intex Pools

Having an unlevel Intex pool should not stop you from using your pool, just make sure you fix the issue first.

Some pool owners have been with their Intex pools for years despite being installed on an uneven ground surface. Most of them either using a rachet rope to keep the frames in place and/or are utilizing leveling blocks under their pool to at least lessen the unevenness of their Intex pools.

Also, if you’ll think it will be difficult to fix your unlevel Intex pool on your own, it might be better for you to contact a pool professional to get the job done.

How To Drain An Intex Pool – Complete Guide

There are several different reasons why you have to know how to drain an Intex pool. One of the most obvious reasons is to store your pool.

Storing your pool can free up some needed space in your yard or deck.

Table Of Contents

Draining your Intex pool is also a must if you want to store your pool during the cold months. And if you don’t want to go through the whole process of winterizing your pool.

We already covered the different reasons why you should drain your swimming pool, you can check that out if you want to know more information about the importance of draining your pool.

Different Ways On How To Drain Above Ground Pools

Before we go ahead and discuss the different ways on how to drain an Intex pool, make sure that you are draining your pool water that would not harm any plants or animals.

What we’re saying is you should follow the guidelines or laws on where you should discharge your pool water.

Siphoning

Garden hose siphon is the most common way most people drain their Intex pools, especially if it does not have a built-in drain valve.

You will need a regular garden hose and some stuff that’ll keep the hose in place to start. Just remember that the size of your garden hose and pool will determine the actual drain time. A tiny hose used on a big swimming pool usually leads to a much longer drain time.

First, you must stick one end of the garden hose into the water, and the other one should be on the outside end below the level pool.

Make sure that there are no air bubbles in your garden hose, so the water from the pool can easily pass through it.

When siphoning, it will not be possible to drain all the water on your pool. After reaching a certain water level, you will have to do it manually.

For this reason, garden hose siphoning is the only recommended way to drain an Intex pool if you don’t have much equipment to work on and are working on a limited budget.

Using Submersible Pump

A faster and more efficient method to drain an Intex pool is by using a submersible pump that will suck the water out of your pool.

These electric pumps will cost you money but they will save you a lot of time when you need to drain your Intex pool. You get to enjoy a much shorter draining time when you make use of submersible pumps as your primary draining method instead of a garden hose.

It does not matter how much you’re going to spend for your submersible pump since even the most affordable one can do get the job done.

We highly recommend getting the Goplus Utility Water Pump for Intex pool owners. It’s affordable and it’s also a very efficient electric pump.

Using The Drain Valve

Another inexpensive way to drain your pool is by utilizing the drain valve of your Intex pool if it’s equipped with one.

Just a reminder to pool owners. Never open your drain valve without connecting a hose in it first. You don’t want to drain your pool water where your Intex pool currently stands. It might affect the integrity of the ground or surface your pool is currently on and you increase the risk of damage to your pool structure.

You can connect the female end of your garden hose to the drain connector. For other Intex pools, you may have to screw a hose adapter with your female garden hose end before you can connect it to your drain valve.

This process is faster than siphoning your pool water, but not as fast compared to using a submersible pump.

Complete Guide On How To Drain An Intex Pool

How To Drain An Intex Pool: Easy Set or Pools with Inflatable Top Ring

Knowing how to drain your Intex kiddie pool or Easy set pool is an important process in maintaining and cleaning it.

For Intex kiddie pools with inflatable top rings or the Easy Set pools, they often don’t have a drain valve to drain the pool water, so you’ll have to do it using a garden hose or a submersible pump.

For this guide, we will use a simple garden hose.

Step-by-Step Guide In Draining An Intex Easy Set Pool

Total Time: 4 hours

Test your pool water

If you have one of those large-sized kiddie pools or Easy Set pools, we recommend testing the water first to check if you have low PH levels or high chlorine levels. If your pool water is not acidic or has low levels of chlorine, you can use them to water your plants.

Set up the garden hose in your pool

As mentioned earlier, siphoning uses a regular garden hose to drain your pool water.

Make sure that the hose is properly submerged and that no air inside the hose could block the water from going out of your pool. If set up properly, your siphon should start immediately. Since you might need to wait a while due to the long drain time, it’s best to just check on your pool from time to time while you do other tasks.

Drain the last few inches of water

Since your garden hose cannot drain all your pool water.

You can either carefully pull up one of your pool’s sides to drain the water or use a sponge to gather the remaining water and collect it in a bucket.

This all depends on the size of your pool and which one would be the easier option for you.

Dry the pool

Before storing your pool, you have to ensure that it’s completely dry.

Either you let the pool liner stay outside for a while under the sun for it to air dry or you can wipe your pool with towels to expedite the process.

The pool liner should be dry to avoid the vinyl from sticking together when you fold it.

How To Drain An Intex Pool: Framed Intex Pool Sets

Draining your Intex pool framed set is going to be a little different than draining an Easy set pool.

Since we already discussed siphoning your pool water using a garden hose on the earlier guide.

Here are the steps for draining Intex framed pool sets with the help of the drain valve.

Draining Intex Pool With Drain Valve

The first step is still to test your pool water chemistry levels.

After that, you must locate your drain valve and gather the necessary equipment to drain your pool water out.

Set up your garden hose to an area where you want the drained pool water to go.

Connect your hose adapter to your garden hose and then connect this to your drain valve to start draining your pool water.

Remove the cap in your Intex framed pool set. This is on the bottom inside your Intex pool. Removing it will let water pass through your drain valve.

Once removed, all you have to do now is wait for the pool water to be drained.

We recommend doing this at night, so by morning, your pool is completely drained.

Give it some time to dry completely, then you could start folding your Intex pool for storage.

Draining Intex Pool With A Submersible Pool Pump

Another method to drain water from your Intex pool is by using an electric pool pump.

You just need to drop the intake hose of the pool pump at the center of your pool and place the outlet hose somewhere away from your pool area, make sure it’s on a level area to avoid flooding.

Once you see that the water level is dropping, you can leave it unattended and check it from time to time to see if everything is working properly. The drain time will be much shorter than using a garden hose or the drain valve, so don’t leave the pool unattended for long.

You must turn the equipment off once the water level is too low for further draining, approximately 6 to 12 inches deep.

What To Avoid When Draining Your Intex Pool

Draining your pool may cause damage to your Intex pool, and that is something we are trying to prevent from happening. Here are some of the things you should avoid doing when draining your Intex pool.

Not checking your pool water chemistry

As mentioned earlier, always check your pool water chemistry before draining it to avoid damaging your plants or hurting other living creatures near your place.

There’s a good reason why guidelines were set when it comes to where you should discharge your pool water.

Do not open the drain valve as is

Never open your Intex pool’s drain valve without connecting an adapter and a hose to it.

We know how easy it seems to drain your pool by just opening up your drain valve, but we highly suggest not doing that.

Draining your pool water that way, especially if it’s in your backyard, may cause your pool to sink to where it’s standing.

And it will make it harder for you to dry your pool if outside of it is a pool of water.

Not drying your pool completely

If you’re going to store your pool for an extended time, then you should make sure that it is dried completely.

Folding your pool when there’s still noticeable moisture on it may cause the vinyl to stick together and it may also stain your pool while it’s in storage.

Total Time: 4 hours

Gather necessary tools and equipment

Before draining your hot tub, you must gather all the necessary tools and equipment first for easy draining and cleaning.

Some of the items you might need include hose/s, garden hose valve, brush/es, new filter cartridge, cleaning towels, and of course, cleaning solution.

Turn off the power

Make sure you’ve unplugged the main power source of your hot tub before draining it for your safety.

Locate your drain valve

The drain valve is usually located at the outside bottom of your Intex hot tub. Attach the cleaning nozzle into a hose and connect it to your drain valve.

Insert the nozzle to your drain valve. If your Intex hot tub did not come with a cleaning nozzle, you may get a hose adaptor so you can insert your hose to the drain valve.

Start draining your hot tub

Once you’ve inserted the hose to your hot tub, open the drain valve in your Intex hot tub to start draining the water. This is usually located on the bottom inside your hot tub.

It might take a while for the water to drain, usually it will take two to 3 hours to drain the whole hot tub completely.

Clean your filter system

While you’re waiting for your hot tub to drain completely, you may proceed in cleaning your filter system.

Check your filter cartridge if it requires replacement, you should be changing it whenever enough debris has already accumulated on it.

Clean your interior walls

Once your hot tub’s water is drained, it’s time to start scrubbing your interior walls to remove debris and grimes that accumulated on your hot tub’s walls.

The cleaning solution that you use for your hot tub can just be a simple water and soap combination.

The only time you would need a stronger solution is if it’s not enough to remove the stains on your hot tub liner.

Wait for it to dry

After cleaning your hot tub’s walls, you have to dry it completely if you’re going to store it for an extended period.

How To Choose The Right Intex Pool Heater

Your pool heater is a vital machine in keeping your Intex pool water swimmable for you and your family even during the cold months. It keeps your pool warm for a better swimming experience.

If you’re having a hard time choosing your Intex pool heater, then you might consider answering these questions first:

  • What’s the overall size of your Intex pool?
  • What type of pool heater are you looking for?
  • How much are you willing to spend on your Intex pool heater?
  • How much use are you expecting to get out of it?

Once you’re able to come up with answers to those questions, it’ll be easier for you to make a decision on what pool heater you should purchase.

Types Of Intex Pool Heaters

Intex pool heaters are often measured in BTU or British Thermal Unit. If a higher BTU is indicated that means the quicker that machine can heat your swimming pool.

Gas Pool Heaters

Using gas heaters is one of the most common ways you can heat an Intex pool as it’s fairly easy to use. And can heat your index pool quickly.

Most gas heaters use either propane gas or natural gas to heat your swimming pool.

The BTU that you need will highly depend on your pool size. The larger it is the higher BTU your pool requires for your gas heater.

Like any typical machine that uses gas, these heaters emit air pollution and can be expensive to operate as they can cost you anywhere from $300 to $600 per month. Of course, you also have to pay for the upfront cost of acquiring a gas heater that’s anywhere between $1,000 to $1,500.

Heat Pumps

Heat pumps work by either using both electricity and your surrounding air or by electricity and a water source.

Heat pumps are a more efficient way to heat an Intex pool and will only cost $50 to $150 to operate monthly.

The main drawback of using heat pumps is that they’re more expensive to acquire than a gas heater. Their price usually ranges from $2,000 up to $4,000.

Solar Heating System

Using a solar heating system is another great way to heat your Intex pool. It can be expensive to set up but a solar heating system for your pool is much affordable to install than a solar heater for your house. And it won’t require you to spend on any monthly operating expenses.

It works by utilizing your installed solar panels to transfer heat from the sun to your pool by letting your pool water pass through them.

But what if it’s raining or during the night when there’s no sun to heat my solar panels?

For this one, you might have to rely on another pool heater to heat your pool.

A solar heating system does not heat the pool quickly as a gas heater would.

Solar Covers or Blankets

An inexpensive way to heat your pool is by utilizing solar covers or blankets. These are made of plastic material that’s designed to retain the heat from the sun or the heat produced by your pool heater.

For those living in warmer climates, using solar covers to heat your pool might be enough so you won’t have to buy an Intex pool heater anymore.

But if the solar covers are not enough to give you the right temperature you want for your Intex pool, then you may opt to purchase a more powerful pool heater and supplement it with a solar pool cover for better heat retention.

For this one, we give the edge to the Intex Easy Set. Customers love the pool for its easy setup and good value for money.

Summer Waves Active Frame vs Intex Metal Frame

Summer Waves and Intex also have framed above ground pools.

Much like their pools with inflatable top rings, the Metal Frame and Active Frame are almost identical.

Both pools are easy to assemble according to those who bought them and are very durable because of the high-quality pool liner and sturdy frames that the pools come with.

The pool filter pump system is included in both Metal Frame and Active Frame pool sets.

The large-sized sets come with a pool ladder. For Intex, it includes the ground cloth and a pool cover.

An improved version of their more affordable framed pool sets are the Elite Frame for Summer Waves and Intex Prism Frame for Intex.

Both pool sets come in different shapes such as round and rectangular. Both are good large-sized above ground pools that can accommodate at least four adults.

What about accessories?

After you have purchased your pool, you will need the proper accessories to keep it maintained and a place for relaxation. Summer Waves and Intex both offer pool accessories, however, I found that Summer Waves’ accessories are mostly for maintaining your above ground pool, while Intex offers accessories for maintenance and relaxation.

Many customers of both Intex and Summer Waves suggest upgrading the included filter pump, stating it is simply not strong enough to efficiently maintain the pools. Both companies sell upgraded pumps that are compatible with their pools, and customers who invested for a better pool pump said it was money well spent.

FAQs About Intex and Summer Waves Pool Sets

Is Summer Waves and Intex the same?

No, they are both different brands and each is owned by a different company. Both pool brands offer easy to set up inflatable above ground pools. Intex calls it their Easy Set pools set while Summer Waves market their inflatable pools as Quick Set Pools.

Can I use an Intex pump on a Summer Waves pool?

Yes, you can use an Intex pump on an above ground pool from Summer Waves. Make sure that the pool has 1-1/4″ fittings attached to it, either of these is what you would use when you connect the Intex hoses and valves.

Which pool is better Intex or Summer Waves?

Intex is the more popular brand but when it comes to their pool sets, both pool companies offer quality above ground pools that you can use for years. However, larger pool sets from Intex with metal frames are hands down better than Summer Waves framed pool sets. This is because Intex adds powdered and steel coating to their frames to make them more durable.

Summer Waves vs Intex Pools – Final Thoughts

Both Summer Waves and Intex are pretty comparable when it comes to customer satisfaction. Each company has their unique versions of their above ground pools, giving you a variety of pools to choose from to fit your wants and needs.

I feel that Intex offers a little more variety as far as pool size and overall accessories go. I also find their website to be more user-friendly which helps when you need urgent support for your pool.

However, Summer Waves products are of good quality too and offer great above ground pools at a decent price.

No matter which pool you go with, you will be making a great purchase that everyone is sure to love.

How To Choose The Right Intex Pool Pump

Your pool pump is a vital machine in keeping your pool water swimmable for you and your family. It keeps your pool water from being stagnant which often leads to a dirty pool.

If you’re having a hard time choosing your Intex pool pump upgrade, then you might consider answering these questions first:

  • What’s the size of your swimming pool?
  • What type of pool pump are you looking for?
  • How much are you willing to spend for your pool pump upgrade?

Once you’re able to come up with answers to those questions, it’ll be easier for you to make a decision on what pool pump you should purchase.

Types of Pool Pumps

Single-speed Pumps

The pioneer of all pool pumps is the single-speed pump. It has an impeller that only runs in one speed based on the horsepower of the motor.

Since it’s only running at one certain speed, you won’t be able to make any adjustments to cut your energy costs.

If you currently have a single-speed pool pump, then you might consider upgrading to dual-speed or variable-speed pump.

Dual-speed Pumps

For dual-speed pumps, it has both high and low-speed options.

The high speed can be as powerful as a single-speed pump yet it has the option to use less energy with its low-speed settings. However, this setting may not be as efficient in circulating your pool water.

Variable-speed Pumps

Variable-speed pumps are considered the best pool pump for any type of swimming pool. If you’re looking to invest in a good pool pump, then you should consider getting a variable-speed pump.

This type of pool pump consumes less energy yet is more-efficient than dual-speed or single-speed pumps.

Pool Pump Sizing Guide

It is best if your pool pump can cycle all your pool’s full volume at least once per day. This is called the turnover rate.

To get the right-sized pool pump for your swimming pool, you must first determine your pool’s volume.

You can use this pool volume calculator from Swim University.

After calculating your pool’s volume, you must divide it by 8.

The result will be the minimum number of gallons per hour (GPH) that you should look for your pool pump upgrade.

We recommend going over the minimum GPH, so you won’t have to do another upgrade anytime soon.

Getting a pool pump higher than what’s recommended doesn’t have much negative effect on your pool. It is much better for it since your pool pump will bring better circulation and improve your filtration system.

If you cannot easily get the volume of your pool, you may also refer to the pool pump’s product information. Manufacturers often indicate the minimum and maximum pool volume that their pumps can support there.

Benefits Of Upgrading Your Pool Pump

Having the right pool pump for your above ground pools can give you the following benefits:

  • Better circulation of your pool water
  • Improved filtration system for a cleaner and clearer swimming pool
  • Less time required to maintain your pool

When upgrading your pool pump, you should look at it as an investment since you’ll want to use this pool pump for a long time.

Setting Up Your Intex Saltwater Filter System

Turn on the machine

Plug the power cord into an electrical outlet. And turn on the unit. With the filter pump turned on and operating.

Set the operating hours for your saltwater system

Each pool size has different required operating hours. You can refer to your Intex pool pump manual for this one.

It will activate your saltwater system depending on the number of hours you’ve set.

The best indication that your saltwater system is running is when you hear a beep once you press the button and see a green working indicator on your control panel.

Boost your saltwater system

For the first time setup it is required that you boost your pool’s saltwater system. You just need to press and hold the “Boost” button for five seconds.

It will increase the time that your pool saltwater system is running by eight-fold. If it’s running at 2 hours per day. It will be running for 16 hours.

After the boosting procedure is done, your system will switch back to normal operations.

What kind of salt can I use for my saltwater system?

Use only sodium chloride (NaCl) salt that is at least 99.8% pure. Avoid using iodized or yellow-colored salt.

Salt is added to the swimming pool water and the electrolytic cell uses the salt to create the sanitizer. So, the purer the salt the better the performance of your system’s electrolytic cell.

Add your salt

Change your saltwater system mode to “Filter Pump“. Hold the button for the Filter Pump until “FP” flashes on your screen.

Determine the amount of salt you need to add and evenly spread it inside the system. Avoid adding salt through the skimmer for you not to clog your filter.

How much salt should I add?

The ideal salt level in the pool water is between 2500-3500 ppm or parts per million. The optimal
level is 3000 ppm.

A too low salt level will reduce the efficiency of the saltwater system.

A high salt level may generate a salty taste to the pool water, this usually occurs at a salt level above 3500-4000 ppm.

Having too high of a salt level will damage the power supply and may cause corrosion to pool metal fixtures and accessories.

Now, you might be asking what’s the best Intex pool size to get?

Well, it highly depends on the space you have at home, if you have enough space, then you should maximize it. A bigger pool means more swimming space for you and your family.

Also, most big Intex pool prices don’t have much difference between them, so it’s better to get the one with more depth and bigger dimensions if you could.

Fun Fact

If you’re going to examine the data we presented, you’ll notice that the pools with the highest number of gallons are not oval or rectangular-shaped, but those that are round-shaped.

intex pool sizes

If we’re going to rank them by the ratio of how many gallons they’re able to accommodate and how much ground space they need, it’ll be round-shaped at first, next is rectangular, and last will be the oval-shaped pools.
