Most people like to sit inside and watch television when it’s chilly outside, but you don’t have to do this if you own an Intex hot tub. Intex inflatable hot tubs bring you simplicity, affordability, and hours of enjoyment for a fraction of the cost of high-end hot tubs.
Intex has made a name for itself in the pool and hot tub industry since they’re known to deliver durability, quality, and affordable innovation with their products.
We’ve put together this guide about Intex hot tub accessories to help you get the most out of your brand new hot tub. We’ve included here the best testing kits, hot tub chemicals, cleaning tools, covers, vacuums, and lighting equipment that you can buy to get the best hot tub experience.
Intex Hot Tub Accessories For Cleaning
Having a clean hot tub is vital to your well-being and the lifespan of your hot tub. Now, we all know how fun hot tubs can be, but when it comes to keeping it clean, we doubt you can say the same thing. The good news is we have some tools here that could make cleaning your Intex hot tub a much easier task.
Your regular cleaning routine might not be enough to keep your hot tub water clean and clear forever. A good way to ensure that you get all the debris and dirt in your tub is by using a spa vacuum cleaner, a tool you can use to clean your hot tub liner thoroughly. Here are some great vacuum cleaners for your Intex hot tub.
The best way to determine the condition of your tub water is to use reliable testing kits like the ones we recommend below. Knowing what you’re dealing with when it comes to your chemical levels will make it easier for you to correct any issue with the water in your Intex hot tub.
New Intex spa owners should only get the appropriate hot tub chemicals to ensure that the water in your tub stays clear and clean. Here are the necessary hot tub chemicals we recommend you get.
Do you want a more comfortable way of using your Intex hot tub? Well, you can easily get these Intex hot tub seat upgrades to improve your overall spa experience and ensure that your guests are comfortable too.
Intex hot tubs usually come with a hot tub cover, but if for some reasons you didn’t receive one for your Intex hot tub set or you are planning to upgrade your cover soon for better coverage and protection, then here are some of the best Intex hot tub covers you can get today.
You’ll need to change the water from time to time as a standard rule of thumb. Just how frequently depends on how often you use your Intex hot tub and the number of people who take a dip in your tub. In general, draining and refilling is recommended every six weeks or so. To make things a lot easier for you, we recommend getting one of these water pumps to assist you in removing the water in your hot tub.
Spending your night in your Intex hot tub is a great way to relax after working all day and a great way to lighten the mood is by installing or using lights on your tub.
You can never take safety for granted when you are using your hot tub. We recommend getting these safety equipment so that everyone who uses your tub can be safe from accidents.
As you may already know, draining a hot tub must be done every 3 to 4 months, depending on your usage rate, water quality, and other factors. Not everyone has the time or patience to wait for hours to completely drain a tub using its drain plug or garden hose.
The good news is there are a couple of ways to drain a hot tub that can be used in addition to the drain plug or be combined with other hot tub draining methods for maximum efficiency.
For this reason, we’ve come up with the best pumps for hot tub draining that you can use to speed things up.
Since you’re already planning to drain all your tub’s water, you might as well use a plumbing cleaner or a line flush product so that you can have a much more efficient and cleaner system when you refill it later.
Unique formula super-cleans the inside of Spa and tub plumbing systems
Removes oily residues and deposits quickly and easily
Regular use heps prevent deposits from forming on the heating system
No harsh chemicals!
This special hot tub cleaner is formulated to break down biofilm and it’s known to cause gross-looking foam to resurface on your tub water. This is not a big deal, since it only means that the product is doing well cleaning out the pipes. Make sure that you let it circulate for at least 20 minutes before you start draining your tub.
Turn Off The Hot Tub
You need to turn off all hot tub functions and switch it off on your circuit breaker; you don’t want the hot tub’s heater or pump to work while the water level is low. Remove and clean the filter, and gather all the supplies, then you can start draining your hot tub.
A sump pump will drain your hot tub faster than any equipment, but you need to be there when you’re using it to keep an eye on the water level. If your pump continues to run once the tub is empty, the pump’s motor may burn, so you must turn off the pump as soon as the water has been drained.
There are pumps that will get the water down to just a fraction of an inch, while others require a few inches of water to function. Don’t worry, your hot tub’s drain should do the rest and will remove the remaining water out of your tub.
Massive Base with Wheels protects against jamming from leaves and debris and keeps the pump upright
Our top pick for the best pumps for draining hot tub is the Aquapro Water Removal Pump. This pump is completely submersible and has a 1/3 HP pump that can remove up to 30 gallons of water per minute.

The AquaPro is also equipped with a sensor to automatically turn the pump off when the spa has been emptied. Since you don’t have to check on the pump while it’s on, you can use this time to clean your tub’s filter or get started on scrubbing the hot tub cover.

Even though it is not that fast compared to using submersible pumps when it comes to draining your tub, using a wet/dry shop vacuum is still a better option compared to draining with just a garden hose.
Put one end of your vacuum hose into the tub, and connect the other end to your vacuum. Turn its power on for a few seconds until the flow starts moving. You can turn off the vacuum and disconnect the hose from it so that the water can continue flowing out of the tub. While waiting for the water to drain, you can start cleaning the floor and seats of your tub with your vacuum’s wand.
With its larger hose diameter, it’s more efficient in getting water out of your tub than your regular garden hose. Once the tub’s water level is low enough that the siphon isn’t getting any water out, you must hook the vacuum hose back up to your wet/dry vacuum to remove the last remaining water from your hot tub.
It’s been a wonderful day so far, so you decide to end it relaxing in your hot tub. However, as you remove the hot tub cover and turn on the jets, you suddenly realize that your hot tub jets are not working.
Jets in your hot tub is what separates it from being a plain big bathtub to a luxurious water spa.
To fix hot tub jets not working properly, you need to follow these troubleshooting steps. After resolving your issue, you should be able to relax in your tub with the jets on soon enough.
But before we dive into our guide on how to fix how tub jets not working, let’s find out why it happened in the first place.
If your hot tub jets are suddenly not working and you’ve just happened to use it yesterday without you changing anything on your hot tub or its settings, then it’s understandable why you’re scrambling to find out what happened.
Here are some of the most common reasons why one or more of your hot tub jets are not working properly.
Clogged hot tub filter
Electrical fault
Blockage on one of the hot tub jets
The water level is too low
The hot tub pump is not working
Hot tub jets’ switch is turned off
Due to scale buildup
Hot tub airlock
First, Turn Off the Power.
Before you start doing any troubleshooting steps to fix your hot tub jets, you must power off your hot tub at the breaker box for safety purposes. Also, do not attempt any of the steps mentioned in this guide, if you’re not confident that you can do them properly.
One of my Hot Tub’s Jets Isn’t Working Fix
If the other jets in your tub are working and only one is not, then the most common cause of this is a blockage in that particular jet or a fault on your hot tub jet settings.
When something is blocking your hot tub jet from working, NEVER poke the pipe with a screwdriver. It might be tempting and seems to be an easy solution to your current issue, but there’s a good chance you’ll create more problems when you accidentally puncture a hole in one of your hot tub’s pipes.
Replacing hot tub jets are pretty straightforward, and you can easily get a replacement from Amazon. Just follow the user manual that comes with the product that you are purchasing.
None of my Hot Tub Jets Are Working Fix
When all of your hot tub jets are not working, the first thing you should check is your hot tub settings. Hot tubs can be complicated for some owners, and the most common reasons why the jets won’t turn on is because they really are not turned on and it’s just a simple user error.
You may have accidentally switched the jets off or put your tub on a different mode, if that’s the case, all you have to do is change it back to its usual settings.
If you’ve just used your hot tub and did not drain the water and refilled it recently, then you might be experiencing an electrical fault in your tub. An obvious sign for hot tub electrical problems is an error code on your control panel display screen.
There’s only one way you can do if your hot tub has an electrical issue that’s causing your hot tub jets to now work at all, and that’s to turn your hot tub off and on again. If doing that several times don’t fix the issue, you might have to call a hot tub professional or service engineer to help you diagnose and fix your hot tub problem.
Another reason why the jets of your hot tub may not be working is due to an airlock in its system. This means an air pocket forms in your pump, and instead of it pushing water out, it just sits there full of air.
To fix the hot tub airlock, you need to turn on your hot tub system but turn the heat as low as possible. Ensure that all jets are open, and wait until you see the air bubble up. You might have to leave your hot tub running until the airlock is pushed out of its system.
If that option does not work, then you can either call someone to assist you with more knowledge and experience on these types of things, or you can try doing this method.
Untighten the discharge pipe to bleed the air from the system. Do not remove the coupling completely.
Turn on the pump while the coupling is loose, listen if a pocket of air will be pumped out.
You can turn off the pump once you see the system discharge water.
Tighten the coupling and get ready to use your hot tub again.
For those hot tub owners who have been using their tubs for quite a while now, you may start noticing that your jet nozzles are becoming hard to adjust due to scale buildup. And the reason why your hot tub jets are not working is because of calcium carbonate settling into the opening of your jet nozzles.
Unique formula super-cleans the inside of Spa and tub plumbing systems
Removes oily residues and deposits quickly and easily
Regular use heps prevent deposits from forming on the heating system
No harsh chemicals!
Now, If you’re dealing with heavy scale buildup, then your best bet will be to completely drain and clean your hot tub.
For you to get all the hot tub scale wherever they might be, you should use a line flush product, like the SeaKlear Spa System Flush, to remove any buildup out of your tub’s plumbing.

This guide about how much does it cost to run a hot tub is perfect for those who are still in the planning stage and want to find out what to expect for operating costs. Of course, hot tub owners can also use this to check if they are overspending on hot tub costs.
Most hot tub manufacturers advertise the average cost to run their products as only costing you one dollar per day, but how true is this statement?
Is $30 enough to run your hot tub for the whole month? Or will it cost more than that?
Let’s find out by analyzing how much you can expect in tub electricity costs, the cost of chemicals and accessories for normal maintenance, and how much you have to set aside to repair your hot tub in case something unexpected happens.
How Much Electricity Does a Hot Tub Use Per Month?
The tub energy costs of a hot tub are determined by how much electricity the heater and pump consumes. Keeping the water warm and well-circulated can cost you anywhere from less than a dollar per day for energy-efficient hot tubs or up to $50 per month for high-end ones.
A hot tub heater usually needs between 1,500 watts to 6,000 watts while the pump needs another 1,500 watts to operate. The actual energy cost will vary on how much your local electric company charge for each kilowatt-hour kwh, your local climate, and how often you use your hot tub.
For those living in areas with mild winters, heating a hot tub will cost less compared to those in northern climates since less energy consumption will be required. You also have to consider the quality and age of your water heater, the size of your hot tub, and the number of times you use it to properly determine the actual cost of heating your hot tub.
A great way to reduce your hot tub’s electrical consumption and save money is by using the right-sized hot tub cover with enough insulation to help keep your tub water warm when it’s not in use. This will help trap heat and lessen the time needed to reheat your hot tub water to your ideal temperature whenever you plan on using it.
This highly depends on the size of your hot tub and how you maintain the water when it’s already there.
A hot tub needs to be drained and cleaned at least once every couple of months as part of healthy hot tub maintenance. To estimate the monthly water replacement cost, you can multiply gallons of water in your tub by the number of times you have to drain and refill it every year, then divide it by 12. The number you come up with is your monthly water use, all you have to do is multiply it by the cost per gallon of water.
For example, a 600-gallon hot tub cleaned four times a year, with water at $0.002 per gallon, will result in a $0.40 increase to your water bill each month.
How Much Do Hot Tub Chemicals Cost Per Month?
Similar to how you maintain a swimming pool, hot tub maintenance will also require you to use certain chemicals to keep your water clean and clear.
SIMPLIFIED MAINTENANCE: With this complete spa treatment kit, featuring low chemical content and natural ingredients, you can clean your spa with ease. Whether for an indoor or outdoor hot tub or spa,...

FOR ALL YOUR SPA-CLEANING NEEDS: EcoOne products are the easiest way to maintain a clean and healthy home or commercial hot tub. Whether to clean your filter or maintain a healthy pH level in your...
The most basic level of hot tub water care will cost you around $20 per month. This will require you to add bottled chemicals yourself to ensure that your tub water is safe to use.
You do have the option to upgrade your water care system to save money and reduce the number of times needed to maintain your hot tub.
A good example is a salt water system that maintains the cleanliness of the water by converting salt to chlorine. It’s known to improve your spa experience and require less maintenance than other water care system.
If your hot tub did not come as a complete set, then you still have to purchase a durable insulated hot tub cover, a ground cloth for those with inflatable hot tubs, a chemical dispenser, and some luxury items such as hot tub seats and headrests.

Among the items mentioned, the hot tub cover should be your top priority for proper care of your hot tub since it will protect your hot tub against dirt, insects, and weather elements and help keep your tub water warm and reduce your heating costs. The cost of a good hot tub cover highly depends on the size of your tub and how much insulation it has.
How Much Does It Cost To Maintain and Repair A Hot Tub?
You should also prepare for your hot tub’s maintenance and repair costs as part of your hot tub ownership expense. Hot tub filters must be replaced every 1 to 2 years. Depending on your chosen hot tub, you will either have to replace a single filter cartridge or multiple ones at least once a year. Hot tub filters usually cost about $45 per piece.
Whenever you clean your tub, make sure that you clean the filter as well to extend its life and keep your hot tub running efficiently.
When it comes to repairs, you can add $200 to $500 for your hot tub to your home maintenance costs, and that should be enough to cover any future repair.
How Much Does It Cost To Run A Hot Tub?
Overall, having a hot tub and keeping it in tip-top shape may not be that expensive as you might think. Since most of the hot tubs today are energy-efficient, the most you might spend on a hot tub’s energy consumption is at $50 per month, and this is for high-end hot tubs. Add in the $20 per month you need to buy the needed chemicals to maintain it, another $20 per month for ongoing maintenance costs, and the minimal increase to your water bill.
You should be able to enjoy your hot tub for less than $100 a month. And you can easily reduce that $100 to $70 per month by simply doing some of the following steps.
Get a high-quality hot tub that’s proven to be very energy-efficient.
Place your hot tub in a location that gets a good amount of sunlight but does not get strong winds often to prevent heat loss.
Use the best hot tub cover you can get that’ll keep your hot tub clean and warm.
Lower the water temperature of your outdoor spa by a few degrees in the winter to reduce hot tub energy.
Change your water care system to a saltwater system.
Close the spa’s air jets when no one is using the hot tub.
Keep your hot tub water clear and clean.

Frequently Asked Questions About Hot Tub Covers
How do you size a hot tub cover?
Each hot tub shape requires a different way of measuring its cover. For square hot tubs, you must measure the outside lip to lip, and add 1/2 inch to each dimension. Once you have those, you just have to get the skirt length. The same applies to rectangular hot tubs, but make sure that you request the fold direction you need.
For round hot tubs, you need the lip to lip measurement. If your old cover is measurable, you can measure across the seam. Remember to add 1/2 inch for each dimension.
For irregular-shaped and ellipse hot tubs, you must follow the template provided by the manufacturer of your hot tub to get the proper dimensions for your hot tub cover.
How long do hot tub covers last?
Hot tub covers can last anywhere from 5 to 7 years. After that, the integrity of your hot tub cover may not be able to stand up to the standards required for them.
The most obvious signs that your hot tub cover needs a brand new replacement is when it gets too heavy due to water saturation and if water starts pooling on the top of your cover.
How do you clean a hot tub cover?
The first thing you should do is remove the hot tub cover from your hot tub, then rinse the underside of it to wash off any chemicals that may have splashed its surface.
You can use a vinyl cleaner or mild vinegar and water solution to clean the top of your cover. Avoid using alcohol, bleach, or household detergents as they may damage the UV protection on most hot tub covers.
Once you finished applying the cleaner, you can now start rinsing your hot tub cover and let it air dry afterward.
Use a quality UV vinyl protection spray on the entire surface of the cover for added protection.

It should also be close enough to a power source that you don’t have to use an extension cable. Also, do your best to place your hot tub near a windbreak, like a hedge or a small stone wall. This helps your hot tub maintain its warmth and can lessen your energy cost.

If you don’t have much free time to do a whole lot of cleaning, we highly recommend that you place your hot tub in a location that does not get much traffic to minimize the dirt and dust in its surrounding.

POOL BLASTER Aqua Broom Cordless Vacuum for Spa, Small Pool & Tight Spaces, Ideal for Sand, Silt & Dirt, Battery-Powered Hot Tub Cleaner for Inground, Above-Ground and Inflatable Pools, by Water Tech
As we mentioned at the start of this guide, there are several vacuum cleaners to choose from to clean your hot tub, and they have different features on them that make them unique from other vacuums.
Cord or Cordless
Getting either a vacuum cleaner with a cord or without one can be easily determined by considering the size of your hot tub.
Large hot tubs would need a much more powerful vacuum cleaner than smaller-sized ones. This means you may need to get a vacuum that gets its power directly from a wall outlet or power strip. A cordless vacuum cleaner may not have the same suction power since it relies on batteries.
Also, you should consider the type of debris you usually see in your hot tub, if it’s just some small dirt and debris, then a cordless vacuum should be sufficient to clean it. But if you’re seeing a bunch of leaves and insects in your hot tub, then you might need a more powerful vacuum cleaner.
However, if you don’t have that big of a hot tub at home and it’s not nearby any type of plants or trees, then a cordless vacuum can get the job done for you.
Power Source
Besides deciding whether you need a cord or cordless vacuum, you must also determine whether you want a vacuum that uses an electric source (battery-operated), a mechanical source (manual pool vacuums), or water pressure (siphoning).
If you don’t want to spend much on energy costs, then you can get a manual pumping vacuum or one that uses water pressure in your hot tub.
If you’re after convenience and ease of use, then a battery-operated vacuum cleaner is a better choice.
Additional Attachments/ Features
Pool or hot tub vacuums also give you an option to thoroughly clean your hot tub by attaching either a brush or sponge to it.
Although some hot tub vacuum cleaners do not have this option, this is something you may want to consider when looking for the best hot tub vacuum to use on your tub.
Since you’re getting this to properly maintain and clean your hot tub, we advise getting a vacuum cleaner that allows you to attach a brush or sponge or both if possible.
Getting a hot tub vacuum cleaner is a great investment to prolong your hot tub’s lifespan. And there are different options to choose from. But before you pick one, answer some of these questions first, so you’ll have a basis on what hot tub vacuum cleaner to get.
What’s the size of your hot tub?
What kind of hot tub vacuum cleaner are you looking for?
Do you need something that can easily be stored away?
Will you be needing any additional attachments to your vacuum cleaner?
How much are you willing to spend on your hot tub vacuum?
Once you have answered those questions, it will be easier for you to choose your hot tub vacuum cleaner.
