Using Intex pool chemicals is a very straight forward process and can be done within an hour once you’ve got used to it.

Our guide here about Intex pool chemicals should be of great help for first time Intex pool owners.

But why is it important to use pool chemical on your Intex pools besides that it helps you have a clean and clear pool water.

Why You Need To Use Chemicals For Intex Pools

Chemicals for Intex pools does not only let you have a good swimming environment to enjoy your pool, but also helps prolong the lifespan of your Intex pool.

A well-balanced pool water is great for your pool interiors and for the pool accessories you’re using, while an unbalanced water may damage them. This also means that adding chemicals in your Intex pools can save you money in the long run since you don’t need to replace your pool accessories due to having an unbalanced pool water.

Also, despite being referred to as “chemicals” for Intex pools, they can be beneficial to keep you and your family healthy when you use your Intex pool. Since these Intex pool chemicals help eliminate harmful bacteria, viruses, microbes, and algae in your swimming pool.

Chemicals For Intex Pools Buying Guide 2020

Intex produces some of the best above ground pool sets, and for this reason, getting supplies and accessories for this brand isn’t that difficult. Whether you have an inflatable Easy Set, or simple Intex Kiddie pool set, or even the bigger framed pool sets like the Intex Ultra XTR Frame Set, here are the pool chemicals that should help clean and sanitize your swimming pool.

Intex Pool Chemicals Overview

Pool Sanitizers

Pool sanitizers clean your pool water and make it safe for you to swim on.

Pool chlorine is the most basic pool sanitizer for your Intex pool to keep your water free from bacteria that can be harmful to humans. It’s readily available and it cost-effective whether you have an Intex Easy Set or an Ultra Frame XTR.

When it comes to pool chlorine tablets, we highly suggest getting either the HTH 3-inch Chlorinating Tablets (5lbs) and the BioGuard SilkGuard Complete 3-inch Chlorinating Tablets. They’re both effective in killing bacteria and other contaminants, and are long-lasting chlorine tablets.

Typically, pool water test kits can measure the free available chlorine (FAC) which is the total chlorine remaining in your pool water that has not reacted to any contaminants and is “free” to kill the remaining bacteria and other contaminants in your Intex pool.

The Association of Pool And Spa Professionals recommends that you keep your free available chlorine (FAC) levels between 2 ppm to 4 ppm levels.

Shock

Pool shock is adding a large amount of chlorine to your Intex pool all at once. The usual amount most pool owners add is about 5 ppm of FAC. This helps to eliminate harmful bacteria, microbes, and algae effectively. You should shock your Intex pool at least once a week if you’re not draining its water completely after every use.

If you want a highly-concentrated shock for your pool, you can get the HTH Super Shock Treatment Chlorine Cleaner.

Also, the best time of day to shock your pool, it should be done after sundown to avoid losing the chlorine you use because of the sun’s UV rays.

Algaecide

This pool chemical as the name implies is made specifically for killing algae in your Intex pool. Algae can thrive in any above ground pool, especially those that are exposed directly to sunlight and are not using any canopy tent or pool umbrellas as protection against the sun’s UV rays.

HTH Super Algae quickly kills green, black, and yellow algae in your pool. You can add it to your pool right away same as the Clorox Pool and Spa Green Algae Eliminator.

Algaecide‘s active ingredients effectively kill algae in your pool and prevent it from growing and spreading. You should use this Intex pool chemical at least once a week.

Pool Enzymes

Pool enzymes help reduce the time you need to spend cleaning your swimming pool and prevent scum lines on your pool’s interiors. The best pool enzymes we recommend are the Orb-3 Pool Enzymes and the Caribbean Blue Forever Clean Enzyme.

Enzymes accelerate the break down of organic waste in your pool water. And they are usually paired with other Intex pool chemicals like pool sanitizers to prevent these organic waste from sticking in the bottom of your pool or its walls.

Pool Clarifiers

Clarifier is another essential Intex pool chemical to keep your pool water clear. These pool clarifiers help prevent cloudy pool water in your Intex pool.

It helps combine small particles or debris in your pool into larger particles that your pool filter system can easily remove.

We suggest getting either the HTH Super Clarifier and Clorox Pool and Spa Super Water Clarifier.

Pool clarifiers should only be used once your chlorine levels go back to its normal level since too much chlorine will destroy your pool clarifier.

Also, make sure you check your pool filter system a day or two after using your pool clarifier as your filter system might need some thorough cleaning once those debris particles are trap inside it.

Pool Alkalinity Increaser

For any swimming pools, the bicarbonate alkalinity is the substance that needs to be well-regulated and must be between 80 to 120 ppm levels.

A well-balanced pool water prevents skin and eye irritation and helps extend the life of your Intex pool as well as your pool equipment and accessories.

A pool alkalinity increaser can also be pretty useful when you are winterizing an Intex pool.

For increasing your pool’s alkalinity levels, we recommend using the Puri Tech Alkalinity Increaser or the Clorox Pool Total Alkalinity Increaser.

Recommended Pool Accessories

Those pool chemicals won’t work effectively without some of these necessary pool equipment and accessories.

Intex Pool Chemicals – Final Thoughts

As we mentioned earlier, using chemicals for Intex pools would be a great help to keep your pool water clean and clear, and also help in prolonging your Intex pool’s lifespan.

Since adding chemicals in your Intex pool is not that complex of a process, you can easily get used to it after doing it once or twice.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intex Pool Chemicals

Where to buy Intex pool chemicals?

We highly recommend getting your Intex pool chemicals from Amazon.com.  They carry the widest array of pool supplies that you can likely find online.  (what don’t they carry nowadays?)

One of the best reasons to buy pool chemicals from Amazon is the capability to use the subscribe feature. By subscribing to a product on Amazon, you can set up a recurring order at the interval you choose.  So, for example, if you know you need chlorine tablets each month, you can just set a subscription and your chlorine tablets will arrive each month on the day you choose.  It’s very convenient for pool owners since you don;t have to drive up to your local store to get your pool supplies.

HERE is a link to some of the best pool chemicals on Amazon right now.

How many chlorine tablets do I need for my Intex pool?

This highly depends on the size of your Intex pool, but using a single or a couple of pool chlorine tablets should be enough to keep your pool water clean from harmful bacteria and other contaminants.

Can I just throw chlorine tablets into my Intex pool?

No. It’s not advisable to just throw your chlorine tablets in your pool. It is highly suggested by pool experts that you avoid doing this as it can stain the bottom of your pool and it does not effectively disperse the chlorine in your pool water.

For above ground pool owners, using a floating chlorine dispenser is a much better option. It can dispense chlorine in your Intex pool effectively.

How do you store Intex pool chemicals?

The containers that your pool chemicals are in were designed specifically to store the chemicals safely, so transferring them to another container would not be a good idea.

A clean and dry place is the best location to store your pool chemicals. They should be stored separately from one another to prevent contamination if there is a spill. This is because the concentrated chemicals can react if they are mixed.

How many hours should you run your Intex pool pump?

To keep your water clean and clear it is recommended that you run your Intex pool pump for at least eight hours each day. This helps clear debris and other pool contaminants, and save you money on energy and maintenance costs.

Types of Above Ground Pool Pumps

There are three types of pool pumps available, these are single-speed pumps, dual-speed pumps, and variable speed pumps.

Single-Speed Pump. It has an impeller that only runs in one speed based on the horsepower of the motor. This type of pump consumes the most energy among all pool pumps.

Dual-Speed Pump. This pool pump has low and high settings, so you can choose between them when you run this on your pool. The low setting consumes less energy but it’s not that efficient in cleaning your pool.

Variable-Speed Pump. It is considered the best pool pump for above ground pools. This type of pool pump consumes less energy yet is more-efficient than dual-speed or single-speed pumps. Each speed on a variable-speed pool pump is ideal for different situations from draining your pool water to clearing algae in your above ground pool.

Our Selection Criteria

For our selection of the best pool pumps for above ground pools, we placed great importance on the following factors:

Pump Performance

We looked for pool pumps that are powerful enough to circulate your overall pool volume within 4 hours or even less than four hours. We used 4 hours as a benchmark since that’s enough time for a good pump to turn over your pool volume at least once.

Energy Consumption

New pool owners are often advised to get the most powerful pump with the highest horsepower (HP) for better and cleaner pool water. However, getting a pump with high HP than what’s recommended for your pool size may cause higher energy costs. So we researched for the most energy-efficient pool pumps today.

Initial Cost

We also considered the upfront costs of acquiring these pool pumps. Are they worth their price tag? Or will you be spending too much for a mediocre pool pump? Since you’ll be using your pool pump for several years, you should approach the buying process similar to how you approach the products you want to invest in.

Tips In Using And Installing Your Above Ground Pool Pump

All the pool pumps we recommend are very easy to set up and use. They’re also variable-speed pumps that will give you an option to set the right speed for different scenarios.

  • Your pool pump must be placed on a solid and level surface. It must be a place where rain or snow can’t reach your pool pump.
  • Your pool pump motor needs a free circulation of air for cooling.
  • There should be adequate access, space, and lighting for easy routine maintenance.
  • Avoid putting pool chemicals directly into the filter pump system. This may damage the pump and void your machine’s warranty.
  • Never let a dirty filter stay in your pool pump system. Replace your filter whenever necessary.
  • For pool pumps with sand filters, you should use the No.20 silica sand for a better and more efficient filtration system.

Cartridge Filter vs Sand Filter

There are two types of filter systems you can use along with your pool pump: sand and cartridge.

The cartridge filter system operates by pushing your pool water to the cartridge filter inside your pool pump system. Once water has been filtered it will go back to your pool and the debris will remain on your cartridge filter.

Sand filter system works by using silica sand to filter dirt and other particles once they go past your sand filtration system.

When it comes to their upfront costs, sand filter systems are often more affordable to buy than cartridge filters. Sand filters also require less changing of filter media, since the sand media only require replacement every five to eight years.

However, sand filter systems require backwashing when there is a noticeable decrease in water flow pressure. Backwashing is reversing the flow of water on your pool pump system to flush out contaminants.

Now, about the filtration system and ease of maintenance, the edge goes to the cartridge filter system. A cartridge filter can filter twice as much debris and dirt as a sand filter.

And maintenance is easier on a cartridge filter system since you don’t have to perform backwashing. You can just pull out the filter media and rinse it to remove the debris on it, and then reinsert it back to your pump system.

The filter media will last you about a year up to three years depending on your pool usage.

For above ground pool owners, we suggest going with a cartridge filter system since it can catch smaller dirt particles, clean your pool more efficiently, and require less maintenance.

However, this does not mean sand filter pumps are bad. Sand filters are still great for those looking for a more affordable option. And sand filters can still do a good job of filtering your pool water.

Best Pool Pumps – Final Thoughts

There are dozens of pool pump options available today, but if you want the best pool pump for your above ground pool, then you should consider those three options first.

Hayward and Intex are two well-known brands in the above ground pool industry. And they have a good reputation for producing good and long-lasting swimming pool equipment and accessories.

Also, investing in a good pool pump can be great for your above ground pool’s lifespan.

Our suggestion is to get a powerful pump that can still be used even if you decide to upgrade your above ground pool.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pool Pumps

What size of pump do I need for my above ground pool?

Above ground pools unlike inground pools don’t have much variation on their shapes. The typical above ground pool can either be circular in shaper or rectangular. And their sizes or overall volume are often indicated on the box they came with or you can search for it online.

For those above ground pool owners who have less than 10,000 gallons of pool water, then going with a 1 HP pool pump should be enough,

For those with more than 10,000 gallons of pool water, a 1.5 HP should be sufficient for your above ground pool.

Which type of pool filter is best?

As mentioned earlier, we prefer cartridge filter systems since they provide better filtration, need less maintenance, and clean faster than sand filters.

Is it okay to run my pool pump for 24 hours a day?

It is not recommended to run your pool pump 24 hours a day and it’s not a requirement to do so.

Running your pool pump for the whole day will increase your electricity bill and is not necessary to keep your pool water clean and clear.

For this reason, having the right pump for your pool size is important to avoid the need to run your pool pump for 24 hours a day.

Is it better to run my pool pump at night or during the day?

The time of day you should run your pool pump is during daylight hours. It’s when the sun is hitting your pool which is one of the requirements for algae to survive in your pool.

Some may argue that electricity costs more during the day, and that’s a good reason why you should pick the right time during the day to run your pool filter.

If you use your pool in the early morning and late afternoon, you may opt to run your pool pump during those times.

Having the best pool pump for your above ground pool can also save you a lot of money on energy costs.

How long should a pool pump last?

With regular use, your pool pump can last for at least 10 years. With proper maintenance and care, it could last longer than that.

The amount of years it may take before you need to replace your pool pump depends on several factors like your pool size, pool usage, and the type of filtration system you’re using.

How To Drain An Intex Pool – Complete Guide

how to drain an intex pool

There are several different reasons why you have to know how to drain an Intex pool. One of the most obvious one is to store your pool.

Storing your pool can free up some needed space in your yard or deck.

Draining your Intex pool is also a must if you want to store your pool during the cold months. And if you don’t want to go to the whole process of winterizing your pool.

We already covered the different reasons why you should drain your swimming pool, you can check that out if you want to know more information about the importance of draining your pool.

Different Ways On How To Drain Above Ground Pools

Before we go ahead and discuss the different ways on how to drain an Intex pool, make sure that you are draining your pool water that would not harm any plants or animals.

What we’re saying is you should follow the guidelines or laws on where you should discharge your pool water.

Siphoning

Siphoning is the most common way most people drain their Intex pools, especially if it does not have a built-in drain valve.

You will need a simple garden hose and some stuff that’ll keep the hose in place.

First, you must stick one end of the garden hose into the water, and the other one should be outside end below the level pool.

Make sure that there are no air bubbles in your garden hose, so water can easily pass through it.

When siphoning, it will not be possible to drain all the water on your pool. After reaching a certain level, you will have to do it manually.

For this reason, this is only a recommended way to drain an Intex pool if you have a limited budget.

Using Submersible Pump

A faster and more efficient method to drain an Intex pool is by using a submersible pump that will suck the water out of your pool.

This will cost you money but it will save you the time you’ll have to spend waiting for your Intex pool to drain.

It does not matter how much you’re going to spend for your submersible pump since even the most affordable one can do get the job done.

We highly recommend getting the Goplus Utility Water Pump for Intex pool owners. It’s affordable and it’s also a very efficient submersible pump.

Price: $65.99

  • 【Safety Protection Design】The motor of this thermoplastic utility pump is wrapped in pure copper coils, so it will stop operating when the operating temperature is too high. Plastic shell is an electrical insulator to prevent leakage and ensure the safety of users.
  • 【Wide Scope of Application】Our water pump is compact and easy to carry. It can be used in various situations not only in farmland and fish pond production activities, but also in residential and commercial water conveyance systems and so on.

Using The Drain Valve

Another inexpensive way to drain your pool is by utilizing the drain valve of your Intex pool if it’s equipped with one.

Just a reminder. Never open your drain valve without connecting a hose in it first. You don’t want to drain your pool water where your Intex pool currently stands. It might affect the integrity of the ground or surface your pool is currently on.

You can connect the female end of your garden hose to the drain connector. For other Intex pools, you may have to screw a hose adapter with your female garden hose end before you can connect it to your drain valve.

This process is faster than siphoning your pool water, but not as fast compared to using a submersible pump.

Complete Guide On How To Drain An Intex Pool

How To Drain An Intex Pool: Easy Set or Pools with Inflatable Top Ring

Knowing how to drain your Intex kiddie pool or Easy set pool is an important process in maintaining and cleaning it.

For Intex kiddie pools with inflatable top rings or the Easy Set pools, they often don’t have a drain valve to drain the pool water, so you’ll have to do it using a garden hose or a submersible pump.

For this guide, we will use a simple garden hose.

Step-by-Step Guide In Draining An Intex Easy Set Pool

Total Time: 4 hours

Test your pool water

If you have one of those large-sized kiddie pools or Easy Set pools, we recommend testing the water first to check if you have low PH levels or high chlorine levels. If your pool water is not acidic or has low levels of chlorine, you can use them to water your plants.

Set up the garden hose in your pool

As mentioned earlier, siphoning uses a garden hose to drain your pool water.

Make sure that the hose is properly submerged and that no air inside the hose could block the water from going out of your pool. If set up properly, your siphon should start immediately.

Drain the last few inches of water

Since your garden hose cannot drain all your pool water.

You can either carefully pull up one of your pool’s side to drain the water or use a sponge to gather the remaining water and collect it in a bucket.

This all depends on the size of your pool and which one would be the easier option for you.

Dry the pool

Before storing your pool, you have to ensure that it’s completely dry.

Either you let it stay outside for a while under the sun for it to air dry or you can wipe your pools with towels to expedite the process.

The pool’s inside and outside walls should be dry to avoid the vinyl from sticking together when you fold it.

How To Drain An Intex Pool: Framed Intex Pool Sets

Draining your Intex pool framed set is going to be a little different than draining an Easy set pool.

Since we already discussed siphoning your pool water using a garden hose on the earlier guide.

For draining Intex framed pool sets, we will be using the drain valve.

The first step is still to test your pool water chemistry levels.

After that, you must locate your drain valve and gather the necessary equipment to drain your pool water out.

Set up your garden hose to an area where you want the drained pool water to go to.

Connect your hose adapter to your garden hose and then connect this to your drain valve to start draining your pool water.

Remove the cap in your Intex framed pool set. This is on the bottom inside your Intex pool. Removing it will let water pass through your drain valve.

Once removed, all you have to do now is wait for the pool water to be drained.

We recommend doing this at night, so by morning, your pool is completely drained.

Give it some time to dry completely, then you could start folding your Intex pool for storage.

What To Avoid When Draining Your Intex Pool

Draining your pool may cause damage to your Intex pool, and that is something we are trying to prevent from happening. Here are some of the things you should avoid doing when draining your Intex pool.

Not checking your pool water chemistry

As mentioned earlier, always check your pool water chemistry before draining it to avoid damaging your plants or hurting other living creatures near your place.

There’s a good reason why guidelines were set when it comes to where you should discharge your pool water.

Do not open the drain valve as is

Never open your Intex pool’s drain valve without connecting an adapter and a hose to it.

We know how easy it seems to drain your pool by just opening up your drain valve, but we highly suggest not doing that.

Draining your pool water that way, especially if it’s on your backyard, may cause your pool to sink to where it’s standing.

And it will make it harder for you to dry your pool if outside of it is a pool of water.

Not drying your pool completely

If you’re going to store your pool for an extended time, then you should make sure that it is dried completely.

Folding your pool when there’s still noticeable moisture on it may cause the vinyl to stick together and it may also stain your pool while it’s in storage.

Recommended Accessories For Draining An Intex Pool

Since draining your pool does not require any complex equipment or tools, here are some of the accessories we use to drain ours. And it may be of good use to you too.

For our garden hose, we bought the GrowGreen Heavy Duty Expandable Garden Hose. It has different sizes, but for our pool, we got the 25 feet hose.

If you need a hose adapter, but it seems you can’t find one that’ll work for your specific Intex pool set. You can try purchasing this Intex Garden Hose Drain Plug Connector that fits all Intex above ground pool sets.

For submersible pumps, we highly suggest getting the Goplus Utility Water Pump.

If you don’t have a complete set of maintenance kit for your Intex pool, you may also grab this Intex Deluxe Maintenance Kit at an affordable price. The kit includes a 110″ telescoping aluminum shaft, a vacuum that will utilize your pool filter system, debris skimmer, and scrub brush heads.

Final Thoughts

Draining your Intex pool should not be a tedious process with the right tools and equipment and of course, the right instructions too.

We hope that this guide on how to drain an Intex pool helped you, and if some instructions may seem different for your Intex pool model, please refer to your pool’s product manual for more specific instructions.

Insert the nozzle to your drain valve. If your Intex hot tub did not come with a cleaning nozzle, you may get a hose adaptor so you can insert your hose to the drain valve.

Start draining your hot tub

Once you’ve inserted the hose to your hot tub, open the drain valve in your Intex hot tub to start draining the water. This is usually located on the bottom inside your hot tub.

It might take a while for the water to drain, usually it will take two to 3 hours to drain the whole hot tub completely.

Clean your filter system

While you’re waiting for your hot tub to drain completely, you may proceed in cleaning your filter system.

Check your filter cartridge if it requires replacement, you should be changing it whenever enough debris has already accumulated on it.

Clean your interior walls

Once your hot tub’s water is drained, it’s time to start scrubbing your interior walls to remove debris and grimes that accumulated on your hot tub’s walls.

The cleaning solution that you use for your hot tub can just be a simple water and soap combination.

The only time you would need a stronger solution is if it’s not enough to remove the stains on your hot tub liner.

Wait for it to dry

After cleaning your hot tub’s walls, you have to dry it completely if you’re going to store it for an extended period.

You can dry your Intex hot tub under the sun if possible to expedite this process.

Making sure it’s dried well, with no water or moisture, will prevent stains from forming on your hot tub liner.

How To Deflate Intex Hot Tub

If you must deflate your Intex hot tub for easy storage, then you can do so by using the pump and heating system that came with the product.

You just have to reinsert the hose to the valve where you put it when you inflate your Intex hot tub. This time, change the setting to deflate to easily remove the air inside your inflatable hot tub.

If you don’t have that option, then you may have to do the traditional way of inflating any inflatable products, and that is by manually pressing on it while the valve is open to drain the air inside.

It’s the same way as deflating an inflatable bed, but the time it takes to deflate an Intex hot tub is usually longer.

How To Drain An Intex Hot Tub – Recommended Accessories

To make things easier for you to drain an Intex hot tub, we recommend getting some of these accessories if you don’t have them included with your Intex hot tub set.

How To Heat An Intex Pool – 3 Best Ways To Do It

how to heat an intex pool

Who says swimming in your pool is just a summer activity?

If you want to enjoy your Intex pool even after the summer season ends, then you should know how to heat an Intex pool to maintain a warm swimming environment even during cold seasons.

For those lucky enough to be living in warmer climates, you might think you won’t need an Intex pool heater. But it’s still a good idea to get a heater for your Intex pool to keep your pool warm when you want to enjoy your pool at night when the temperature usually dips.

If you’re having some difficulty selecting your Intex pool heater, you can check out our buying guide below.

How To Choose The Right Intex Pool Heater

Your pool heater is a vital machine in keeping your Intex pool water swimmable for you and your family even during the cold months. It keeps your pool warm for a better swimming experience.

If you’re having a hard time choosing your Intex pool heater, then you might consider answering these questions first:

  • What’s the overall size of your Intex pool?
  • What type of pool heater are you looking for?
  • How much are you willing to spend for your Intex pool heater?
  • How much use are you expecting to get out of it?

Once you’re able to come up with answers to those questions, it’ll be easier for you to make a decision on what pool heater you should purchase.

Types Of Intex Pool Heaters

Intex pool heaters are often measured in BTU or British Thermal Unit. If a higher BTU is indicated that means the quicker that machine can heat your swimming pool.

Gas Pool Heaters

Using gas heaters is one of the most common ways you can heat an Intex pool as it’s fairly easy to use. And can heat your index pool quickly.

Most gas heaters use either propane gas or natural gas to heat your swimming pool.

The BTU that you need will highly depend on your pool size. The larger it is the higher BTU your pool requires for your gas heater.

Like any typical machine that uses gas, these heaters emit air pollution and can be expensive to operate as it can cost you anywhere from $300 to $600 per month. Of course, you also have to pay for the upfront cost of acquiring a gas heater that’s anywhere between $1,000 to $1,500.

Heat Pumps

Heat pumps work by either using both electricity and your surrounding air or by electricity and a water source.

Heat pumps are a more efficient way to heat an Intex pool and will only cost $50 to $150 to operate monthly.

The main drawback of using heat pumps is that they’re more expensive to acquire than a gas heater. Their price usually ranges from $2,000 up to $4,000.

Solar Heating System

Using a solar heating system is another great way to heat your Intex pool. It can be expensive to set up but a solar heating system for your pool is much affordable to install than a solar heater for your house. And it won’t require you to spend on any monthly operating expenses.

It works by utilizing your installed solar panels to transfer heat from the sun to your pool by letting your pool water pass through them.

But what if it’s raining or during the night when there’s no sun to heat my solar panels?

For this one, you might have to rely on another pool heater to heat your pool.

A solar heating system does not heat the pool quickly like a gas heater would.

Solar Covers or Blankets

An inexpensive way to heat your pool is by utilizing solar covers or blanket. These are made of plastic material that’s designed to retain the heat from the sun or the heat produced by your pool heater.

For those living in warmer climates, using solar covers to heat your pool might be enough so you won’t have to buy an Intex pool heater anymore.

But if the solar covers are not enough to give you the right temperature you want for your Intex pool, then you may opt to purchase a more powerful pool heater and supplement it with a solar pool cover for better heat retention.

Best Kiddie Pool Covers – Everything You Need To Know

kiddie pool covers

So, you’ve got your kids a kiddie pool for the summer and now they could not get enough of it.

It can be fun for you, as parents, to see them enjoying their pool. And spending their time running around and playing in their pool during these hot summer days.

The part where the fun ends for you is having to clean the pool every time they’re done using it.

As you may already know, cleaning your kiddie pool can be a time-consuming and tedious process.

And a great way to lessen the time you have to clean your kiddie pool is by getting a kiddie pool cover.

Why Do You Need To Cover Your Kiddie Pool?

Kiddie pools are usually easier to clean and maintain than most above ground pools due to their smaller size.

However, much like other pools, you cannot just leave water in your pool for days and expect your kids to use it right away. There are health concerns for stagnant water especially if you’re not putting pool chemicals to maintain the water quality.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, using a kiddie pool cover can lessen the time you have to clean your pool as it allows you to keep debris, leaves, and bugs out of your kiddie pool when it’s not in use.

Kiddie pool covers also provide protection against the sun, so algae won’t flourish in your pool water.

It also saves you money as you won’t have to drain your pool water every single time and refill it once your kids decide to use it.

Best Kiddie Pool Covers You Can Use

Now, that we’ve established the importance of having a kiddie pool cover, let’s go ahead and look at some of the best kiddie pool covers you can use.

Ready-Made Pool Covers

If your kiddie pool did not come with a pool cover, then you can easily order a pool cover from your pool’s manufacturer online. This is the best option for you if you don’t want to spend much time looking for or making your pool cover.

Intex has kiddie pool covers available for their kiddie pool sets.

It may fit other pool brands too. You just have to make sure you have the accurate size of your kiddie pool. And look at the product page of your chosen pool cover if it can fit on your kiddie pool.

Old Tarpaulin

Tarpaulins are one of the most common kiddie pool covers used today as it’s very easy to use and set up.

Now, if you’re going to use a tarpaulin for your kiddie pool cover, then you should look for a polypropylene mesh tarps.

These tarps give you better protection from sunlight than other tarpaulins. And helps prevent algae build-up in your kiddie pool.

Don’t forget to use some bricks or pavers to weigh the tarp down so that it does not blow away.

If you don’t have an old tarp sitting around, you can get one from Amazon for an affordable price.

DIY Kiddie Pool Covers

If you want a more unique kiddie pool cover, there’s an option for you to create one on your own. Pool covers are fairly easy to design if you know how to sew things together.

How To Design Your Own Kiddie Pool Cover

Gather the materials you’ll be needing

To make your own kiddie pool cover, you’re going to need the following materials and tools: about 12 feet of fabric or more depending on your kiddie pool size, 10 feet of elastic band (again, the size may vary depending on your pool size), a sewing kit, scissors, ruler, and marker.

Create a big rectangular sheet from your fabric

Cut your fabric in half, then combine the two to form a big rectangular shape by sewing them together.

Outline the shape of your pool cover

Whether your kiddie pool is rectangular in shape or round, you can easily shape your pool cover by putting your pool on top of the fabric and outlining the covered part with a marker.

Once you’re done outlining your pool shape on your fabric, you must add at least a 6-inch distance from your pool outline as an allowance.

Afterward, carefully cut your fabric.

Add your elastic band around your fabric

To add your elastic band, you have to create a place where you can insert it first.

To do this, you should fold at least an inch of fabric on the edge of your sheet and sew it. Try to leave a small opening of at least 3 inches where you can insert your elastic band.

You may attach a safety pin to each end of your elastic band to make it easier for you to put it all around your pool cover.

Once you’re done putting your elastic band in, sew your elastic ends together.

The main drawback of using a DIY pool cover is it may not have the same durability and features as a ready-made pool cover like sun protection or being water-resistant.

Canopies

Using a canopy is another good alternative pool cover solution you may consider.

It’s not like the other covers we’ve already mentioned since this one doesn’t only cover your pool but also the whole area where your pool is.

If you want a cover that will protect both your pool and your kids whenever they use their kiddie pool, then getting a canopy will be the best option for you.

You can also use this canopy whenever you have gatherings in your backyard that would require a suitable cover against the sun.

If you want an affordable and easy way to cover your pool, then you can buy ready-made pool covers from Amazon.

But if you’re looking for something long-term that can also provide your kids cover whenever they use their swimming pool, then we’d recommend getting a canopy tent.

Both companies sell upgraded pumps that are compatible with their pools, and customers who invested for a better pool pump said it was money well spent.

Intex Pool Pump Upgrade – Buying Guide For 2020

intex pool pump upgrades

Are you dissatisfied with the pool pump that came along with your Intex pool set?

If you are, then maybe it’s a good time for you to consider upgrading it.

Or maybe you’ve encountered a problem with your Intex pool pump. And instead of spending money on repair, you’ve decided to do get an Intex pool pump upgrade.

Either way, we’re here to help you make the right decision when it comes to doing an Intex pool pump upgrade.

How To Choose The Right Intex Pool Pump

Your pool pump is a vital machine in keeping your pool water swimmable for you and your family. It keeps your pool water from being stagnant which often leads to a dirty pool.

If you’re having a hard time choosing your Intex pool pump upgrade, then you might consider answering these questions first:

  • What’s the size of your swimming pool?
  • What type of pool pump are you looking for?
  • How much are you willing to spend for your pool pump upgrade?

Once you’re able to come up with answers to those questions, it’ll be easier for you to make a decision on what pool pump you should purchase.

Types of Pool Pumps

Single-speed Pumps

The pioneer of all pool pumps is the single-speed pump. It has an impeller that only runs in one speed based on the horsepower of the motor.

Since it’s only running at one certain speed, you won’t be able to make any adjustments to cut your energy costs.

If you currently have a single-speed pool pump, then you might consider upgrading to dual-speed or variable-speed pump.

Dual-speed Pumps

For dual-speed pumps, it has both high and low-speed options.

The high speed can be as powerful as a single-speed pump yet it has the option to use less energy with its low-speed settings. However, this setting may not be as efficient in circulating your pool water.

Variable-speed Pumps

Variable-speed pumps are considered the best pool pump for any type of swimming pool. If you’re looking to invest in a good pool pump, then you should consider getting a variable-speed pump.

This type of pool pump consumes less energy yet is more-efficient than dual-speed or single-speed pumps.

Pool Pump Sizing Guide

It is best if your pool pump can cycle all your pool’s full volume at least once per day. This is called the turnover rate.

To get the right-sized pool pump for your swimming pool, you must first determine your pool’s volume.

You can use this pool volume calculator from Swim University.

After calculating your pool’s volume, you must divide it by 8.

The result will be the minimum number of gallons per hour (GPH) that you should look for your pool pump upgrade.

We recommend going over the minimum GPH, so you won’t have to do another upgrade anytime soon.

Getting a pool pump higher than what’s recommended doesn’t have much negative effect on your pool. It is much better for it since your pool pump will bring better circulation and improve your filtration system.

If you cannot easily get the volume of your pool, you may also refer to the pool pump’s product information. Manufacturers often indicate the minimum and maximum pool volume that their pumps can support there.

Benefits Of Upgrading Your Pool Pump

Having the right pool pump for your above ground pools can give you the following benefits:

  • Better circulation of your pool water
  • Improved filtration system for a cleaner and clearer swimming pool
  • Less time required to maintain your pool

When upgrading your pool pump, you should look at it as an investment since you’ll want to use this pool pump for a long time.

Set the operating hours for your saltwater system

Each pool size has different required operating hours. You can refer to your Intex pool pump manual for this one.

The best indication that your saltwater system is running is when you hear a beep once you press the button and see a green working indicator on your control panel.

Boost your saltwater system

For the first time setup it is required that you boost your pool’s saltwater system. You just need to press and hold the “Boost” button for five seconds.

It will increase the time that your pool saltwater system is running by eight-fold. If it’s running at 2 hours per day. It will be running for 16 hours.

After the boosting procedure is done, your system will switch back to normal operations.

What kind of salt can I use for my saltwater system?

Use only sodium chloride (NaCl) salt that is at least 99.8% pure. Avoid using iodized or yellow-colored salt.

Salt is added to the swimming pool water and the electrolytic cell uses the salt to create the sanitizer. So, the purer the salt the better the performance of your system’s electrolytic cell.

Add your salt

Change your saltwater system mode to “Filter Pump“. Hold the button for the Filter Pump until “FP” flashes on your screen.

Determine the amount of salt you need to add and evenly spread it inside the system. Avoid adding salt through the skimmer for you not to clog your filter.

How much salt should I add?

The ideal salt level in the pool water is between 2500-3500 ppm or parts per million. The optimal
level is 3000 ppm.

A too low salt level will reduce the efficiency of the saltwater system.

A high salt level may generate a salty taste to the pool water, this usually occurs at a salt level above 3500-4000 ppm.

Having too high of a salt level will damage the power supply and may cause corrosion to pool metal fixtures and accessories.
